Basic services
Lending and reading service is the main system of the Library's resource services. The Library uses different methods to manage different resource according to their types and functions, notably integrating lending, reading, storing and managing . That is to say, the reading room is the lending room too.

Bochuan Library pays great attention to reference services and works hard
to build a reference consultation and information retrieval service system.
The Novelty Search Center of our library is one of the first 13 to be
authenticated by the Ministry of Education P.R.C, which means that our
library has reached high-levels of science information searching. 30 PCs
in the searching hall provide OPAC online retrieval service and CD-ROM
retrieval service via the campus LAN, and two multimedia touchscreen give
an introduction to the Library and its locations.There are also special
tools for searching and a special resources reading room for inquiry.And
you can ask the expert librarians for high quality reference services
at all stages.
The reference services include:
1. An international online searching service and more than 400 databases
from the American DIALOG system.
2. Online databases and Internet resources, including academic resources
searching such as American OCLC's First Search.
3. CD-ROM networking databases comprising 14 kinds of Chinese and foreign
CD-ROM networking databases
4. An index searching service

Bochuan Library has paid great attention to the construction of electronic resources services. In recent years, we continue to enlarge the collection of and useful scope of electronic resources. Currently, we have more than 20 kinds of online databases such as ACS,ASM,WSN,Kluwer,John Wiley,ISTP, IEL, Elsevier, EBSCO, NTIS, Chinese Academic Journal,and users on the campus net can get information from the databases above without restriction.
At present, the electronic services are mainly provided in the SHU HUA Electronic Resource Center, which is one of the biggest electronic reading rooms among China’s university libraries.
Novelty
search
Bochuan Library is one of the first 13 novelty search stations authorized
by the Ministry of Education P.R.C. Novelty Search retrieves and gathers
related bibliographic documents and ultimately offers a reasonable, analytical
report after investigation and comparison,in accordance with a given research
project. It is a most important part of scientific research and patenting.

The Dalian International Donated Books Transfer Post is a special establishment of the Ministry of Education P.R.C . The specific work is organized by the “Donated Books Transfer Office”. These books, mainly from bookstores, publishing houses, academic associations and individuals of America, are donated by the American non-official organization “Bridge to Asia” fund committee.
The Dalian Transfer Post has transferred more than 800,000 English language volumes to national university libraries since 1992. These books cover different subjects and many of them have a very high quality. So they are very suitable for college teachers and students to study . The transferring of English language books has greatly profited university libraries. For one thing, it has highly enriched the collections of foreign language books. For another, it has saved much money because the donated books only require a the very low fee to manage.
The transferring work of our Post is welcomed by many university libraries, and enriching the collections of foreign language books through donated books has been a very important way for them to introduce foreign language books.
Authocized by the Ministry of Education P.R.C, our library has continual undertaken 22 generations of staff training classes since 1982,meeting a total of 1,200 trainees from about 500 university and college libraries. The training has give them basic theories of library and information science, working methods and techniques,enabling them to work in college and university libraries independently and efficiently. During the 20 years, we have accumulated a complete series of training experiences. We insist on strict management of training classes and make sure the set of the courses can deal with the practical situations. All of these have become characteristics of our training.
